Walking down the street, get sexually harassed
So I kind of casually mentioned on twitter today that it’s a pretty common occurrence for some men to make comments at me when I’m walking down the street. The response was crazy. Heaps of women shared stories of how often it happens to them, and heaps of men were genuinely surprised it happens at all.
I blogged a little bit about it here.
Now, I’m hoping to get other people telling their stories about being harassed. On Twitter, Tumblr, blogs, wherever. Let’s stop acting like this is normal, and start calling it what it is: unacceptable sexual harassment.
This question has been making its way around many of my Facebook friends, and it’s pissing me off. It’s pissing me off because it’s worded so emotively. It’s pissing me off because the definition of protection- and of unborn babies- is non-existent. It’s pissing me off because breathing is in inverted commas- the fact they’re not breathing isn’t up for debate! It’s pissing me off because it’s reducing an incredibly complex legal question to an emotive and oversimplified answer.
Shame on the 94,000 people who clicked “Definitely, yes”.
